The longest railway tunnel in the world
In 2008 ALPINE (as part of a tender consortium) wins the contract to construct railway engineering facilities. The Gotthard base tunnel is currently the longest railway tunnel in the world with 57 km. It is a milestone in tunnelling that will lead to a dramatic improvement in the traffic of tourist and goods right in the heart of Europe.
ARGE Transtec Gotthard was contracted to do the planning, installation and commissioning of the railway technology of this tunnel. This project comprises construction and/or installation of tracks, power supply and cabling, light and power lines, overhead contact lines, switching devices, tunnel control systems, data network systems, operational communication systems, tunnel radio systems, railway control centre, railway infrastructure, signalling system and railway safety system.
