The project is divided into three contract sections, contract section 1 for the Pottenbrunn train station, contract section 2 for the actual intersection between the new section, freight train bypass and enlarged section and contract section 3 for the entrance road into the town of St. Pölten.
The primary purpose of the construction is to join the existing double-track West railway line with the new (NBS) Vienna – St. Pölten section and the planned (GZU) St. Pölten freight train bypass. The construction work also includes a diversion of the L 5083, L 5086 and L 2200 federal roads and a number of local roads.
