The construction sections U2/9 “Donauspital” and U2/10 “Aspernstraße” temporarily are the end of the extension of U2 leading to the 22nd Viennese municipal district. It provided better connections to the public transportation system for Donauspital SMZ Ost, the expanding Viennese city district Aspern and the region south of Marchfeld.

The construction and roadway have been designed for a speed of 80 km/h. A single and dual track sit on an elevated bridge construction along the entire route. Both stations have a centre platform. A dual track with crossing has been ordered for the station “Apernstraße”. In an emergency it allows trains to turn by crossing the tracks at the station.. The reverser and holding tracks are situated behind the station “Apernstraße”. There are separate reverser tracks and an maintenance platform (also elevated).
