79 Bridges
A total of 79 bridges is to be built as part of the 51 kilometres of motorway and dual carriageway. These bridges serve several purposes: on the one hand they are to straddle barriers but on the other hand they are to preserve existing structures as well, such a traffic routes and deer passes. The bridge projects are made up of 33 motorway and dual carriageway bridges, 10 bridges for wildlife crossings, 20 country road bridges, 10 dirt road bridges, 3 railway bridges, 2 crossings to allow access to motorway service areas and 1 bridge for bicycles.

Motorway and dual carriageway bridges
Motorway and dual carriageway bridges are mostly located in Section A5 and around the city of Eibesbrunn. It is necessary to route the traffic across numerous bridges as two S1 dual carriageway branches, the northern motorway A5, two country roads and many dirt roads meet at that point. On the other hand there is the hilly countryside of the A5 that necessitates numerous bridges. Two valley bridges stand out and cross the Weidenbach and the Pellendorfer stream. Both T-beam bridges are made up of 6 sections, have a pile foundation and are 158 m and 155 m long, have a maximum width of 31 m and are constructed up to 13.5 m above ground.

Bridges for wildlife crossings
Wildlife crossing bridges spread out evenly along the roadway. The only exception is the Section S1 West. The wildlife crossing bridges provide a way across the roadway for many different animal species . The tunnels near the city of Kreuzenstein and Stetten as well at the base of the ridge called Tradenberg serve the same purpose. Wildlife crossing bridges have been positioned according to extensive studies of existing deer passes. A wildlife crossing bridges traditionally consist of a frame bridge with two sections and a natural foundation. Along the A5 it sometimes is build in 3 sections as the state road B7 running alongside has to be crossed as well. Depending on the use and/or type of deer pass the bridges are between 25 and 80 m wide.

Country road bridges
Country road bridges serve as crossings of dual carriageways and motorways. They also include bridges that will be build as new country roads are constructed that are part of the contract. Depending on the skew angle a typical bridge is about 40 to 45 m long and 10 m wide. These are constructed as frame bridges with two sections and natural foundation.

Dirt road bridges
For the most time the roadway runs through agricultural areas. There are sections where wildlife crossing bridges and country road bridges will be constructed at long intervals only. Additional dirt road bridges will be constructed in those sections to allow farmers to access their fields. They are constructed in the same fashion as country road bridges. Along the motorway A5 the length of a bridge can exceed 50 m as the state road B7 has to be crossed as well. A typical farmer road bridge is 8 m wide. Farmer roads will also be built along the dual carriageways and motorways and more farmer road bridges will have to be built on these roads to cross streams. The length of a bridge will depend on local circumstances.

Corporate Design
All components of this project will have a consistent design so that users and residents alike will perceive this project as one unit. 31 components have been selected along this route to receive a special design according to the corporate design. It is intended to increase the project’s recognition value even more.
