Until the road construction project on the S84 from Niederwartha (Dresden) to Meißen was started, there had literally been no connection between Cossebaude and Radebeul/Coswig since 1945.
As part of this project a new bridge is being constructed, parallel to the existing railway bridge. It will be the first cable stayed bridge in Saxony to have been constructed using a composite construction method and will have a total length of 366 metres, supported by a 77 metre high pylon. The total span within the river will be 192 metres. The diameters of the legs of the twin-legged pylon are 2.5 metres and 3.5 metres which make it the largest of the five supporting bridge pillars. It allows access for regular inspections from the inside, using platforms and ladders.
