Client: Messezentrum Salzburg GmbH, Stadt Salzburg/Land Salzburg/WKO-Salzburg)
Construction period: 04.2011 – Completion of multi-purpose hall October 2011, Completion of conference area Summer 2012
Location: Salzburg
Country: Austria
As general contractor, ALPINE is constructing the multi-purpose hall with foyer, conference area and outside facilities. Halls 10 to 15, erected in the 1970s, have been demolished and the landfill below these has been rehabilitated.
Multi-Purpose Hall
The multi-purpose hall, which will be used for trade fairs, exhibitions, congresses and major events, is of a size comparable with a European Championship stadium, but differs in being completely roofed over. Partitioning with mobile partition walls enables the simultaneous use for several events.
Due to the external supporting structure, it was possible to reduce the volume of the building, thus achieving maximum utilisation. On account of optimal planning the energy consumption was able to be reduced by as much as 45,000 Euros (corresponding to 75,000 litres of oil per year).
For the construction on extremely difficult terrain, 3 km of piles were needed for the foundations, 30,000 m³ of soil was moved, 25,000 m³ of concrete placed and 5,000 tonnes of steel installed. A total of approximately 600 people from diverse sectors were needed for the construction of the hall.
