Poland and Ukraine are the joint hosts of the European Soccer Championship EURO 2012™. The National Stadium Warsaw will be constructed at the location of the current “Stadium of the decade”. It was designed by the architect consortium JSK Architekci sp. z o.o., gmp International GmbH, Schlaich Bergermann und Partner. The stadium will have 55,000 seatings across two tiers on 10 levels. 65 exclusive VIP lounges with a total of 900 seatings will be ready to receive guests. More than 800 seatings will be available for journalists. The two lower levels below the level of the soccer field will house an underground garage with space for 1,765 cars. The planning also includes the construction of a restaurant, a shopping zone, a fitness centre and some conference rooms.
The roof will house a mobile interior membrane roof that can stretch across the entire field to make it independent of weather conditions. The stadium’s appearance will be dominated by a woven skin in white and red and will remind of a waving Polish flag.
During the first construction phase, demolition and earthwork were performed. Because of the complicated geological conditions it was also necessary, to construct special foundations – piles with large diameter, bored piles with pipe protection, prefabricated driven piles, gravel-, gravel-concrete and jet-grouting pillars. In total, more than 2,000 piles with an average length of 32 m and a total length of 66 km have been constructed. In the second construction phase, other construction works (reinforced concreting using the wet process, pre-cast concrete members, steel and cable constructions, etc.), building services and internal construction will be realized.
