Austria and Switzerland are the hosts of the Euro 2008. Innsbruck, Salzburg, Vienna but also Klagenfurt are the venues of finals.
One of the most modern soccer stadiums in Europe is being constructed between the city of Klagenfurt and the lake Wörthersee, with the Karawanken mountains providing the backdrop. The contract for planning and construction of this 66-million-Euro project was awarded to Arbeitsgemeinschaft Euro 2008, PORR GmbH/Alpine Mayreder Bau GmbH. The architects DI Albert Wimmer designed this impressive new arena. 32,000 canopied seatings (EM stadium) will be provided for Euro 2008™. Once this championship is over the Wörthersee stadium will be deconstructed (base stadium) and will hold a total of 12,500 visitors. One of the biggest challenges for the architects was to retain the impressive visual effect of the large stadium in the smaller version of this stadium.
