Four tunnels will be constructed as part of the Project Y. They will be equipped with the latest in tunnel and safety technology. Special mention deserves the tunnel Tradenberg in the community Hagenbrunn/Königsbrunn. It will be at the future S1 West. It is the first real tunnel in this wine region that will be built with mining technology. Visible tubes will extend outside the tunnels to increase the noise barrier. On completion the protruding tubes will be covered with earth and landscaped.

Geology
The route of the tunnel will cross the Bisam mountain which is a part of the Alp region Flysch. When examined in more detail it can be seen that it is scaled units of the rock formation Greifensteiner Decke (Altlengbach and Irenental formation). The rock consists different types of rock such as mudstone, clay marl, marl stone and various types of sand stone that are distributed very heterogeneously.

Construction method: NATM (New Austrian Tunnel Method)
Cuts: Excavation by diggers in sections crown – slope – floor level, partially using explosives to loosen up the ground
Support: Shotcrete, tunnel grid arches, system anchors with SN and/or IBO anchors, pipe roof at the entrance (protrusion about 5 m), spikes as advance safety measurement
Sealing: PVC sealing sheets 2 mm
Coating: with in-situ concrete (non-reinforced), thickness 40 cm, open construction method
Concrete tube: Reinforced concrete arch “White tub” without sealing

Tunnel Info
2 street tunnel tubes, 2.458 m + 2.424 m, of which 1.404 m + 1.360 m are being built with mining technology and 1.054 m + 1.064 m are built with open construction method.
2 lanes and 1 parking lane alone the entire length, 9 crossings (5 built with mining technology + 4 built with open construction method); cut section 126.00 m².
