Contributing towards sustainability
We employ pioneering processes, improved products and optimised methods in our business activities in order to aid ecological issues and protect the environment. As well as actively contributing towards the protection of the environment in our own sphere of activity, the projects and services we are involved in themselves represent a significant contribution towards more sustainability. For example, ALPINE builds hydropower stations, biogas plants, wind farms and photovoltaic parks to generate renewable energy.
Modern, highly efficient refuse incineration plants, recycling facilities and flood protection structures also help to protect ecosystems.
Eco-friendly working methods
We perform environmental audits to ensure that all of the laws and regulations relating to the environment are observed at all of our locations and building sites. The number of construction site audits focusing specifically on the environment is steadily on the rise. An ISO 14001 environmental management system is used in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Serbia and Romania. In addition, we use the “Lex Tool” application at all of our ALPINE offices and builders’ yards in order to achieve legal conformity in the fields of safety and environmental protection.
Our subsidiary OKOTECHNA Entsorgungs- und Umwelttechnik GmbH specialises in the disposal of waste materials from construction sites. Its activities include recycling mineral construction waste, providing systems for disposal logistics on construction sites, centrally sorting waste materials from building sites and commercial operations, undertaking projects involving the rehabilitation of contaminated sites and operating a construction waste landfill.
Comprehensive programme of activities
Activities aimed at environmentally conscious, sustainable business practices are spreading from our construction sites and production facilities (such as concrete and asphalt mixing plants) into an increasing number of office locations and builders’ yards. In the “Sustainability Challenge” project run in conjunction with the INEX Institute, students identify sources of potential sustainability at our Vienna Oberlaa office, the Trumau MTA and selected building construction sites.
Furthermore, our Vienna Oberlaa office was awarded the “Oko Profit” award for the third time, and our Graz location for the first time, this being given to office buildings which are run ecologically. To qualify for this accolade, potential savings must be found every year and costs must be reduced. Assessment is also based on energy indicators involving the consumption of waste, water, gas and electricity. We are steadily reducing the relative fuel consumption of our vehicle fleet by means of ecological fleet management, driver training schemes and the equipping and converting of vehicles. Ecological factors are taken into account whenever we establish new offices or builders’ yards. Eco-friendly methods are used when we build, and we avoid creating tremors and dust whenever we can. In order to minimise our consumption of energy, buildings are insulated as thoroughly as possible. Alternative energy sources such as geothermal power and solar energy reduce the use of fossil fuels, thus minimising carbon outputs.
