FCC
The Spanish Parent Group FCC
FCC is the parent group of ALPINE. According to turnover and profitability it is Spain's largest construction and service industry group.

FOMENTO DE CONSTRUCCIONES Y CONTRATAS, S.A. (FCC) was founded in March 1992 by fusing two prestigious companies. CONSTRUCCIONES Y CONTRATAS, S.A. (CYCSA), founded in 1944 in Madrid and FOMENTO DE OBRAS Y CONSTRUCCIONES, S.A. (FOCSA), founded in Barcelona and listed since December 1900. The shares of FCC are currently listed in the Ibex-35 Index (which is comprised of the 35 most important Spanish listed companies).

Since long its growth strategy focussed on diversification. Already in 1911 its activities enter public services with a contract to clean and maintain Barcelona’s drainage system although it originally has been founded as a construction company.

In 2009, 57% of sales came from the construction sector, 29% from environmental services, 8% from cement and 6% came from FCC VERSIA, S.A. (logistics and transportation, municipal facilities, the operation of multistorey car parks and parking garages, vehicle inspections and passanger transportation).

FCC is by far the most important Spanish waste water and waste removal company and continuously expands into other market segments. In 2009, the groups total sales were 12.7 billion Euro of which 44% came from  FCC’s international activities.

FCC’s construction department
‚FCC Construcción, S.A.‘ has more than 100 years of experience in construction. The activities cover all areas of construction at the Spanish and international market. ‚FCC Construcción‘ employs more than 28,000 people.

Economy and Facts and Figures
In 2009, ‚FCC Construcción‘ achieved sales of 7.2 billion Euros. Compared with the previous year, this is a decrease by -7%. From total sales, 53% came from international contracts (Austria 43%, Eastern Europe 25%, Germany 17%, rest of Europe 7%, North and South America and Asia 8%).

Of particular interest are the results on the international market. Compared with the sales in 2008, sales remained almost level with only a slight decrease by -0.5%. Thus, the 35% increase in sales in 2008 was stabilized. In the construction sector, orders in hand increased by +6.9% to 10.9 billion Euro in comparison with 2008 – particularly large increases were seen in commercial building construction (+20.7%) and civil engineering (+6.1%).

ALPINE expands FCC’s construction section
In 2006, FCC acquired 80% of ALPINE and further expanded its international construction activities with facilities in Central, South and Southeast Europe.
