Salzburg/Dambovita: Alpine continues to be successful on an international scale, winning the 22-million contract for a major EU environmental project in Romania’s Dambovita district as the best bidder. The “Titu” and “Aninoasa” landfills will be built roughly 100 km north of Bucharest and existing landfills rehabilitated. Five large landfills will be closed and sealed, 77 dumping sites cleared and recultivated. In addition, a modern waste sorting and composting plant will be built. The facilities will
process household waste and compost from the surrounding communities, where new collecting points will be set up. Alpine will execute the entire project as the sole contractor within a period of two years.
“The environmental sector is not only an important future market in Austria but also in the new EU member states. Our technical know-how can be ideally implemented in
Romania, where extensive investments are being made in this sector”, comments Alpine’s managing director, Ing. Roman Esterbauer, on Alpine’s first environmental project in Romania.
This important environmental project will require a total of 360,000 m2 of geotextiles/films. Earth movement will amount to 220,000 m³ and the mineral sealing to 50,000 m³.
Environmental know-how
Drawing on extensive environmental know-how, Alpine has already executed a number of projects in the field of waste removal, recycling, site decontamination, landfill construction and the construction of sewage treatment plants in Austria and Germany.
International construction projects
Alpine is currently building one of Europe’s biggest hydropower stations in Bulgaria and one in Turkey. An intake tunnel is under construction in India, a subway station and subway tunnel in Singapore. Other projects are in progress in China, Bhutan, Croatia and Greece. The environmental project in Romania is another chapter in Alpine’s story of success.
