Alpine Bau Deutschland won the 50-million-euro contract to build the railroad bridge in the Unstrut Valley. The bridge will be part of the new ICE railroad line leading from Erfurt to Leipzig/Halle near Karsdorf (Saxony-Anhalt). Construction is scheduled to begin in July and should be completed by 2010. “Planning and technical preparations for this ambitions project are currently underway,” explains Hannes Huber, Alpine’s branch manager in Zöschen.
The bridge, to span 2.7 kilometers, will have four arches and will cross the Unstrut River at a height of 50 meters. “The bridge is a civil engineering challenge we are happy to face with our extensive know-how in the field of bridge construction”, remarks Huber.
Know-how in bridge construction
Alpine’s office in Zöschen has a staff of 100 and a high level of competence in bridge construction. The team is currently reconstructing the Kennedy Bridge in Bonn. Other bridges are currently under construction, e.g. in Kempten/ Allgäu, Itzehoe, Dresden and Poland. The Zöschen team is also responsible for the construction of the A 9 Rippachtal Bridge and the “Leipzig Südtor” arched network bridge on the A 38.
