Salzburg/Sofia: ALPINE was the best bidder again in the environmental sector in Southeast Europe. The construction group signed a contract to build two turnkey sewage treatment plants in the Bulgarian cities of Sevlievo and Bourgas Meden Rudnik. The projects are being financed by the EU and have a contract value of
roughly EUR 15 million. In addition to planning, construction, equipment and start-up, the projects will also include training the sewage treatment plant staff. Construction
of the plants will be completed within a period of two years.
The environmental sector is steadily growing. The pent-up demand in the new EU countries in the field of environmental technology has an interesting growth potential. Its extensive expertise has allowed ALPINE to become a highly competitive bidder in this region.
The plant in Sevlievo, approx. 200 km northeast of Sofia, will service approx. 53,300 inhabitants in the city and vicinity. The plant in Bourgas Meden Rudnik on the Black
Sea will treat the waste water for some 56,800 residents. Both plants will be equipped with a three-stage treatment process. They will be operated by mechanical, biological and chemical systems.
Environmental know-how
Drawing on extensive environmental know-how, ALPINE has already earned an outstanding, international reputation as an environmental expert. Earlier this year it won an EU contract for an extensive environmental project to construct and decontaminate waste disposal sites in Romania.
