Salzburg/Zagreb: Alpine completed the main span of the 840 m “Domovinski most” bridge crossing the Save in Zagreb after a construction period of only 15 months. The 6.4 million euro contract was awarded in November 2004, construction commencing in January 2005. The carcass of the free-cantilevered bridge is finished, Alpine demonstrating a masterly achievement in terms of time management.
“A special feature was the installation of the sewer for the city of Zagreb’s central sewage plant inside the structure”, reports DI Günther Schab, head of Alpine’s national concrete/bridge construction division. The bridge is also essential for Zagreb’s urban traffic. Its fast completion will connect Zagreb with the new airport. The roadway has two lanes and a sidewalk in each direction as well as two streetcar tracks and is integrated in a five-section prestressed concrete hollow box.
This record-breaking achievement was also a topic at the annual Concrete Day (March 30/31, 2006) where the masterly feat was discussed at length.
