Vienna: ALPINE is currently building a new waste incineration plant in Zisterdorf, Lower Austria, that will generate electricity for 30,000 households. The facility is being constructed 60 km north of Vienna on an area of ten hectares. Construction recently commenced and the plant is expected to go into operation in the fall of 2009. The consortium of master builders includes the leading manager ALPINE as well as Siemens Bacon, who will be responsible for building services engineering. The 23-
million-euro contract was awarded by the Swiss Von Roll environmental engineering company, who will be in charge of the general contracting. The entire project has a contract value of EUR 100 million.
ALPINE will construct the turnkey plant with a capacity of 130,000 tons of waste for Abfall Service Austria AG (ASA) on the premises of a former brickyard. The heat generated during the waste incineration process is used to produce electricity. A total of 100,000 MWh per year will be generated.
The project initially drew considerable attention from the public. An environmental test (UVP) conducted with active community participation had a positive outcome.
Waste disposal know-how
ALPINE has extensive know-how in waste disposal and successfully concluded numerous projects in the field of recycling, site decontamination and landfill construction as well as the construction of sewage treatment plants in the country and abroad.
